Premier A
The closest game was that between Lodge Rangers Premier and the Rangers
Premier Reserve team. The game was played with good team spirit but was also highly
competitive. At end of first quarter the Premier team led by 16 goals to 12 and
at half time they led by 30 goals to 24. The third quarter was a draw with the
score being 41 goals to 35 but the Premier team were dominant in the final
quarter winning the game 63 goals to 46. For the Premier team it was another
hard-fought contest, with both sides showing plenty of determination and grit.
Some outstanding skills on display as the momentum swung back and forward
throughout the game. Lucy Sidwell and Lauren Spring in defence got some great
turnover ball on the back of strong unit defence. Abby Bartels was a solid
target at goal shoot with high volume and accuracy. Proud of the team for
grinding out the first three quarters and then playing with freedom in the
final quarter to push out the margin. For the Premier Reserve side, the Club
derby saw them play the Premier side in a game that was expected to be a close
competition with both teams competing for the top spot. The team had a strong
start through the first half of the game staying in touch with the Premier
side. There was great defensive pressure from Kayla Wright at goal keep and
Kate MacKay at goal defence, gaining turnovers at critical times of the game to
draw the third quarter. The Premier team in the end, were too strong in the
final quarter. They put relentless
pressure throughout the court that the team could not overcome. A disappointing
way to end the game with the score blowing out.
Turangawaewae Premier and FTNC Premier also had a competitive game. The first quarter was drawn but at half time Turangawaewae Premier led by 28 goals to 18 and while the third quarter was a draw they finished strongly to win by 61 goals to 41.
Simmon Wilbore at GA for Turangawaewae Premier
HGHS Langman were dominant in their game against
University of Waikato Premier Reserve. At half time the score was 34 goals to
17 and the fulltime score was 70 goals to 37.
University of Waikato Premier were also dominant in their
game against FTNC Premier Reserve, and they led from start to finish. At half
time the score was 40 goals to 16 and the fulltime score was 76 goals to 29.
Premier B
The Premier B competition remains very close with another
draw this week. Ngā Taiātea Wharekura Premier and Allied HOB Premier were
locked at 10 all at end of first quarter and drawn again at 20 all at half
time. In the third quarter Ngā Taiātea Wharekura Premier managed to creep ahead
to lead by 33 goals to 30 but Allied HOB Premier came back in the final quarter
to have the game result in a 42 all draw. For Ngā Taiātea Wharekura it was a
tight game but the young players remained composed under pressure. Defensively
they also hunted for the ball when not in possession. For Allied HOB it was a
great game and contest. Raechelle Kemara at goal attack led the shooting circle
with her experience and with guidance to the younger shooters and accurate
shooting. Keira Paekau at wing defence was tenacious in defence upsetting play
outside of the circle. Overall, a great team effort to make a comeback and draw
the game.
Raechelle Kemara at GA for Allied HOB Premier
Northern United Sports Club Mamba and St Paul’s
Collegiate Premier had a nail bitting game with nothing in it. At end of first
quarter Mamba had a lead of 14 goals to 7. The second quarter was almost goal
for goal with the half time score being 23 goals to 15. St Paul’s had a strong
third quarter to reduce the deficit with the score being 31 goals to 27. The
final quarter again was almost goal for goal with the final score being 41
goals to 38. For Mamba they started the game strong, which was exactly what was
needed. The team came out with great energy, strong connections, and worked
well together. As the game went on, fitness started to play a part, along with
substitutions, and the team lost a bit of that connection, which allowed St
Paul’s to close the gap. Proud of the team and the way they started the game, but
most importantly, that they held on to get the win in the end. For St Paul’s a slow start saw the team
take time to build their connections. Accuracy and timing improved as the game
progressed, with stronger connections through the court, helping close the gap
at halftime. The third quarter was a turning point, with the team communicating
better and playing with greater urgency, narrowing the margin heading into the
final quarter. St Paul’s finished strongly, showing resilience and determination
right through to the final whistle. Strong leadership on court came from Livvy
Perenara at wing attack and goal attack and Klaudia Horsfall at centre, who
both led by example with their work rate, communication, and composure under
pressure.
Waikato
Diocesan for Girls Premier were too good this week for HGHS Old Girls Premier
despite a close first quarter. At half time they led by 20 goals to 11 and they
won the game 36 goals to 22. HGHS OG took some credit in winning the final
quarter but the damage had been done.
St
Peter’s Premier were too good for Te Awamutu College Premier despite a very
tight and close first quarter with only one goal the difference. At half time
they led by 29 goals to 23 and they won the game 60 goals to 45.
There is
a two week break now due to the school holidays.
