Premier A

It was an epic game between Allied HOB Collins Premier and FTNC Premier Reserve with nothing between the two teams. At the end of first quarter the game was drawn 14 all and at half time it was drawn at 31 all. By the end of the third quarter Allied has a one goal lead with the score being 42 goals to 41 only for FTNC Premier Reserve to pull ahead in the final quarter winning the game 52 goals to 51. For FTNC Premier Reserve it was pleasing to have a game where the team pushed hard right till the end. Hinemoa Greig started as goal attack and worked well in combination with Zoe Rosser at goal shoot who was under a lot of pressure from a strong defence. Greig used speed to cut the top of the circle while Rosser drew the defence to open up space. Everyone stepped up to support each other with Jessica Blake at wing attack providing consistency. Jorja Metcalfe and Jaimie Jagoe shared the centre bib with both driving  through the middle of the court and strong getting onto the shooting circle edge to feed. Mid court defence worked hard with Ria Clune-Zammit and Michaela Soffe providing pressure when in wing defence. The combination of Anna Stevenson at goal keep and Hannah Ngawhika as goal defence really clicked with some vital intercepts and rebounds. Stevenson defended the circle with great communication and kept moving to confuse the space which allowed Ngawhika to attack the ball. An exciting game with a hard-fought win. For Allied the defence end with Alex Abraham at goal keep, Suraiya Rewi at goal defence and Sammie Sullivan at wing defence did their upmost best to shut down the shooters with the game almost goal for goal throughout. Tyler Downs at goal shoot, Kawe Enoka-Barton at goal attack, Pania Monk at wing attack and Kyra Collier at centre converted all their centre passes and turnovers into goals despite being tightly contested by the opposition. Everyone used the connection they’ve built throughout the game and court. Proud of the team as it was a fight to the end.

FTNC Premier Malissa Thompson and University of Waikato Premier Mya Meadows

University of Waikato Premier had a solid win over FTNC Premier with the score being 37 goals to 26 at half time and winning the game by 74 goals to 42. Despite winning three of the quarters the second quarter was a draw. This game had a late start while a goal post was repaired.

Align Health Rangers Premier Reserve GA Seree Coombe being defended by HGHSOG WD Te Aomihia Oliver-Samuels

Align Health Rangers Premier Reserve led from start to finish in their game against HGHSOG Premier. At half time, the score was 32 goals to 16 and the fulltime score was 71 goals to 29.

HGHS Langman Kaziah Riley-Rata being defended by Align Health Rangers Premier WD

Align Health Rangers Premier were dominant in their game against HGHS Langman despite some good play by the school team after a very slow start. At half time, the score was 44 goals to 14 and the fulltime score was 86 goals to 37.

Premier B

St  Peter's GA Brylee Ingram being defended by Vetora Melville Premier GD Lily Sparks

St Peter’s were tested by a determined Vetora Melville Premier. At end of first quarter St Peter’s led by 8 goals to 7 but by half time the score was drawn at 18 all. In the third quarter St Peter’s were able to get three goals ahead with the score being 30 goals to 27. They then strengthened their lead in the final quarter, winning the game by 40 goals to 33. For Melville Premier it was a feeling of so close, but so far away. It was a great effort by the whole team.

Turangawaewae Premier and University of Waikato Premier GS contesting the ball

Turangawaewae Premier had a great competitive game against University of Waikato Premier Reserve. At end of first quarter Turangawaewae led by 12 goals to 11 but at half time University Premier Reserve led 23 goals to 22. Turangawaewae had a comprehensive third quarter to lead by 33 goals to 28 and they also won the final quarter. The fulltime score was 45 goals to 36. For Turangawaewae the mid court attacking players utilized the pockets when needed to enable the shooters options at the top and bottom of the circle. The defence end showed a lot more confidence in each other which made ball clearance on a turnover flow swiftly down court. Happy with the outcome and the team is looking forward to finishing the season strong. For University Premier Reserve it was a game of two halves. The determination and desire from every player were evident and the fight to remain in the game was something the team was proud of. Unfortunately, with the need to make a few positional changes the team lost momentum and did not forge forward. The team looks forward to the challenges ahead.

Northern United Sports Club Mamba GS being defended by St Paul's Collegiate Premier GD

St Paul’s Collegiate Premier and Northern United Sports Club Mamba also had a close competitive game. At end of first quarter the game was drawn 10 all but after a strong second quarter Mamba led by 27 goals to 15 at half time. The third quarter was a draw with the score being 35 goals to 23. St Paul’s won the final quarter but not enough to take the win. The final score was 40 goals to 30. For Mamba they had to play smart with only 7 players ready to play. With one injured and another sick on the bench, they both had to step in—and they did amazing! The whole team played a strong, united game. The defence was outstanding! We could have done with some more players, but this is what happens in a team full of “mamas”. St Paul’s had their moments and were pleased to draw a couple of quarters and to win the final quarter but it was not enough on the night.

Waikato Diocesan for Girls Premier WA

Waikato Diocesan for Girls Premier were dominant in their game against Marist Verdettes Premier. At half time, the score was 22 goals to 6 and the full time score was 40 goals to 17. The final quarter was a draw but the damage had been done.

Next week will conclude the second round of competition with two weeks of championship round to follow. Finals night is Thursday, 21 August 2025.
