Premier A

Lodge Rangers Premier Reserve and HGHS Langman had an outstanding game with not much in it for the whole 60 minutes. At end of first quarter HGHS Langman led by 12 goals to 10 but at half time the score was 23 all. Rangers Premier Reserve got ahead to lead 43 goals to 39 at end of third quarter only to see HGHS Langman make a strong comeback in the final quarter to win the game 53 goals to 50. For HGHS Langman the game was a thrilling contest, with the lead changing throughout the match. The team produced some outstanding passages of netball, with the attacking combination of Kiaarah Wilson at goal attack and Matilda Lakokiperitania at goal shoot proving a standout in the shooting circle. The pair combined beautifully with strong movement and accuracy under pressure, while the team’s defensive pressure throughout the court played a huge role in securing the win. Rangers Premier Reserve knew that HGHS Langman would be competitive and were expecting a close challenge, and it was from the starting whistle. Some positional changes in the attack end saw Seree Coombes slot into goal attack, combining with Alicia Craig at centre and Sam Falkner at wing attack, all of whom had a solid performance. The ball went into the shooting circle with better flow. A massive third quarter saw the team in the lead but due to unforced errors and defensive pressure from HGHS the lead slipped away in the final quarter. Still the team performance was an improvement from last week.

In the inter club game between FTNC Premier and Premier Reserve the Premier team won this comfortably but it was played in good spirits. At half time they led by 34 goals to 16 and they won the game 65 goals to 28. The third quarter was low scoring for both teams.

Lodge Rangers Premier were too strong for University of Waikato Premier Reserve. At half time Rangers Premier led by 33 goals to 22 and they won the game 66 goals to 44. University Premier Reserve can take credit with winning the second quarter and the third quarter close.

University of Waikato Premier dominated in their game against Allied HOB Premier and they led from start to finish. At half time, the score was 28 goals to 7 and the fulltime score was 59 goals to 18.

Premier B

St Paul’s Collegiate Premier had a slow start to see Te Awamutu Senior Premier ahead by 12 goals to 8 at end of first quarter. They strengthened their lead to be ahead by 22 goals to 14 at half time. The third quarter was low scoring with the score being 30 goals to 19. St Paul’s were strong in the final quarter to close the gap but not enough to take the win with the fulltime score being 36 goals to 32.

For Te Awamutu, it was a great game, with both teams highly competitive and they were happy with the narrow win. As this is their first year competing at this level, the team is continuing to find its feet and will continue to grow and develop. Captain Kayla Smith led the side well, and through her encouragement and strong work ethic both on and off the court, the team has built strong connections and cohesion. For St Paul’s it was a great final quarter, but the focus will be on coming out stronger in the first quarter rather than playing catch up netball.

Northern United Sport Club Mamba and Turangawaewae Premier had a highly competitive game. At end of first quarter Mamba led by 11 goals to 9 but by half time Turangawaewae Premier had taken the lead to be ahead 22 goals to 16. The third quarter was a draw with the score being 29 to 23 and same with the final quarter with the final score was 39 goals to 33. Turangawaewae despite having a lot of players away this week, the team still pulled away with the win. Standouts were Hariata White, who played at goal attack and balanced the court well with her movement and feeding, and Pourewa Ruri-Clarke, who controlled the defensive end strongly at goal keep and goal defence and secured plenty of ball for the team. For Mamba the team was pleased with their start but let the momentum go in the second quarter which cost the game. The remainder of the game was goal for goal with a strong performance by both teams.

HGHS Old Girls Premier and St Peter’s Premier played on Wednesday night and this game was close. At end of first quarter the game was drawn at 10 all. At half time St Peter’s led by 23 goals to 20 but St Peter’s had a strong third quarter to lead 37 goals to 28. HGHS OG’s won the final quarter to reduce the gap with the fulltime score being 48 goals to 42.
