This week was the first game of the second round with no changes to Premier A or Premier B following the promotion relegation game between HGHS Old Girls Premier (bottom of Premier A) playing against University of Waikato Premier Reserve (top of Premier B) on 16 June. HGHS Old Girls Premier won this game, 43 goals to 41. Overall the game was close with the half time score being 22 goals to 21.

Premier A

A great game between Allied HOB Collins Premier and HGHSOG Premier with the final result a draw. HGHSOG Premier led by three goals at the end of the first quarter but at half time the score was drawn at 25 goals each. Then Allied HOB Premier were ahead by three goals at the end of the third quarter. In the final quarter HGHSOG Premier were able to clinch the draw. The final score was 50 goals all.  An outstanding game with nothing between the two teams.

University of Waikato Premier were put to the test by Align Health Rangers Premier Reserves with the first quarter drawn. By half time University Premier lead by 29 goals to 24. The next quarter was goal for goal with University Premier only an additional goal ahead. Rangers Premier Reserve were strong in the final quarter to narrow the gap with the final score being 54 goals to 50. For University Premier the game was very competitive with Rangers Premier Reserve team pushing hard and challenging the team for the entire entire 60 minutes. They never allowed the team to push the score out which was commendable. Kiaarah Wilson at goal shoot was once again great in terms of shooting statistics and defenders got a lot of ball but the team was not always able to convert this to goals at the other end. For Rangers Premier Reserves the University Premier defence had the team under pressure right from the first whistle and the attack end had to work hard to find the shooters. Kate Mackay at goal defence worked tirelessly to bring the ball through court and Mandi Portegys at centre injected energy picking up some crucial intercepts in the final quarter to help us come back to within two goals. Unfortunately, a little too late but proud of the team for pushing right until the end.

Caitlin Gabel at C for University of Waikato Premier

Align Health Rangers Premier and FTNC Premier had a competitive game but the game was won in the first three quarters. Rangers Premier led by 41 goals to 27 at half time and at fulltime the score was 72 to 53. FTNC Premier won the final quarter by two goals.

HGHS Langman were too good this week for FTNC Premier Reserves and they led this game from start to finish winning every quarter. At half time, the score was 21 goals to 11 and the fulltime score was 54 goals to 27.

Premier B

The closest game was that between University of Waikato Premier Reserves and St Peter’s Premier.  At the end of the first quarter St Peters had a three goal lead but at half time University Premier Reserves reduced the gap. At half time the score was 19 goals to 18. University Premier Reserves then won the third quarter to take the lead, and they won the game 41 goals to 35.  For University Premier it was a fast-paced game forcing players to step up.  With a very close first and second quarter the team struggled to convert turnover ball and made errors.  The third quarter was a complete team effort in turning the game around. The accurate shooting by Precious Falemasame-Letoga at goal shoot greatly assisted with the win. For St Peter’s the team started strongly with patient attack and winning hard fought ball on defence. After a lapse in the third quarter, the team rallied again to get within three goals in the final quarter. Though disappointing to lose, overall, it was a solid effort by the team with improvements in some key areas they have been working on.

Stella Isbister at GS for St Peter's Premier

Waikato Diocesan for Girls Premier had a competitive game against Northern United Sports Club Mamba with the first half very close.  At half time Mamba led by 18 goals to 17 but they had a very strong second half to win the game 41 goals to 29.

Turangawaewae Premier were too good for Marist Verdettes Premier with the half time score being 26 goals to 10 and the fulltime score was 53 goals to 17.

Melville Vetora Premier GD defending St Paul's Collegiate Premier GA

St Paul’s Collegiate Premier were dominant in their game against Melville Vetora Premier.  They won each quarter and lead the whole game. At half time the score was 30 goals to 9 and the fulltime score 66 goals to 19.

On Thursday, we had Connor and Keni come over from Tauranga Netball Centre for the evening as guest umpires.   This was a great opportunity to expose our teams to other umpires and for our umpires to share learnings between the Centres.
