Premier A
This was the first games of
the second round including newly promoted Turangawaewae Premier into Premier A.
And they had an epic battle with University of Waikato Premier Reserves which
ended up being a game of two halves. At end of first quarter Turangawaewae led
by 17 goals to 11 and at half time they remained in the lead with the score
being 27 goals to 22. University Premier Reserve then had a massive third
quarter for the game to be drawn at 38 goals each. The final quarter was close
but University Premier Reserve did come out as the eventual winners with the final
score being 52 goals to 48. For University Premier Reserve, after trailing
at halftime, the team emerged from the break completely transformed. By
tightening the defensive pressure and moving the ball with fluidity down the
court, they systematically erased the opposition's lead. The shift began in the
midcourt, where Sammie Le Bas at wing attack was relentless and Leilani Rooks
at centre drives bypassed the physical defensive blocks in the mid third.
Capitalizing on every loose ball, the attacking end demonstrated composure and
confidently netted shots under immense pressure. With only a minute to go
Hannah Bree at goal keep secured a critical intercept. The whole team were proud
of their efforts. For Turangawaewae it was an exciting next step for the team
with many of the players only experiencing this level of competition for the
first time. The team was pleased to welcome Yana King into the side playing in
both defence and attack. At goal attack she made an immediate impact from the
first centre pass, working the ball into the circle then turning and shooting
confidently. The team has a number of new combinations and are adjusting to the
level of competition so this next round will be a great challenge and
opportunity for growth.
Lodge Rangers Premier Reserve
were too good for FTNC Premier. At half time, the score was 32 goals to 23, and
the fulltime score was 61 goals to 47. FTNC Premier ended strong winning the
final quarter.
University of Waikato Premier
and HGHS Langman had a fast paced and athletic game. At half time University
Premier led by 33 goals to 17. The third quarter was a draw and then University
Premier won the final quarter winning the game 57 goals to 38.
Lodge Rangers Premier were dominant in their game against
FTNC Premier Reserve and at half time they led by 33 goals to 14, and they won
the game by 73 goals to 29.
Premier B
Northern United Sports Club Mamba and St Peter’s Premier
had a close and nail bitting game. At end of first quarter Mamba led by 12
goals to 10 but by half time the score was 20 goals to 19 to St Peter’s. St
Peter’s maintained their lead in the third quarter with the score being 31
goals to 29. The final quarter was won by Mamba, resulting in a draw of 40
goals each. For St Peter’s they knew the game would be close based on last
round and from the opening whistle, both teams went toe-to-toe, with neither side
able to gain a clear advantage. It was an exciting game of netball, with strong
shooting performances from both teams and the midcourt proving a real zone of
transition as possession changed hands throughout the match. Credit to the St
Peter’s team for continuing to apply focus and never giving up until the final
whistle. The fight, determination, and composure shown throughout the match
were a great reflection of the team’s commitment. For Mamba they were
comfortable with their start to the game and to come away with a draw but need
to maintain consistency across all four quarters.
Ngā Taiātea Wharekura and St Paul’s Collegiate Premier
also had a close, see sawing game. At end of first quarter Ngā Taiātea
Wharekura led by 10 goals to 5 but by half time St Paul’s had pulled ahead to
lead by 17 goals to 16. Ngā Taiātea Wharekura were dominant in the third
quarter leading 30 goals to 22 at the break. Again, St Paul’s came back in the
final quarter to narrow the gap but not enough to take the win. The final score
was 35 goals to 33. For Ngā Taiātea Wharekura it was a fantastic and highly
competitive game. Both teams showed determination, skill, and sportsmanship
throughout the game. The team has had a few challenging weeks and some tough
losses so happy with the win. And while proud of the win the team is grateful
for the growth, resilience and lessons gained. Those experiences have helped
shape the team and performance. The St Paul's team continues to show steady
progress narrowly losing this week in a closely contested game. The team held a
slim lead at half time, with the second and fourth quarters proving to be the
team's most clinical periods. During these quarters, the players reduced their
error rate, capitalised on defensive gains, and converted opportunities
effectively. A standout performance came from shooter Livvy Perenara, who
worked tirelessly throughout the game and was instrumental in creating
attacking opportunities through the court. Her strong movement and vision
helped keep St Paul's in contention right until the final whistle.
Waikato Diocesan for Girls Premier were too good for Te
Awamutu Senior Premier. At half time they led by 26 goals to 12, and they won
the game 42 goals to 22.
Allied HOB Premier in their first game in Premier B
against HGHS OG Premier had a win leading by 21 goals to 14 at half time and
they won the game by 41 goals to 23.
